Yorketown takes it's name from the region, however at one time it was suggested it be named Salt Lake City in recognition of the 200 salt lakes within a 13 km. radius of the town. These lakes range in size from .405 of a hectare to 972 hectares ( Lake Fowler ). Yorketown & surrounding areas were very dependent on the salt industry for employment creation, especially through the 1900's - 1920's. |
