BROADBAND ON THE YORKE PENINSULA???
Broadband is a faster connection to the internet for computers (generally 10-20 times faster download than dial-up)
The Australian Government has made $107M available, over the next 4 years, to help people in Rural Australia to get broadbanding. This funding is provided as an incentive payment to broadband providers to encourage them to put the required broadband infrastructure in Rural Australia for the community. This applies for those people who have registered an interest in broadband with the provider or on the Australian Government website at

http://sdndiscovery.dcita.ciov.au/demandregisterclient

If you want to register but cannot, ring Andy Cheel and he will register for you.
Andy Cheel is available by appointment to come to any business or group any time Monday to Saturday inclusive and provide free information about how you can get broadband where you want it, who can provide it for you and at what costs. This is an independent service to the community funded by the Australian Government.
To contact Andy Phone 0438 823 539 or 88521820, e-mail at acheel@intemode.on.net
fax at 88521819 or call into the SYP Community Telecentre, Stansbury Road Yorketown.

The Yorke Peninsula Network

The Yorke Peninsula Network is being established by Agile Communications in conjunction with the District Council of Yorke Peninsula. The project is funded by the Australian Government's Co-ordinated Communications Infrastructure Fund (CCIF), the South Australian Government Broadband Development Fund (BDF), the District Council of Yorke Peninsula and Agile Communications.

Microwave towers will be installed at five centres - Maitland, Mount Rat, Minlaton, Warooka and Yorketown - to provide high-speed communications through the major business and population centres of the Peninsula.

The network is being created following applications made by the Yorke Peninsula Council to the Federal CCIF grants process in order to improve broadband Internet access and communications in the Yorke Peninsula region.

The systems being deployed in the Yorke Peninsula will support high quality packet switched voice, ISDN, Fax, and V.92 modem services concurrently in a single high density 'carrier class' platform. They allow Agile to operate the equivalent to a complete telephone exchange in a single equipment rack in each major network node. These systems have previously been used by Agile in the deployment of the Coorong Network.

The network will deliver services within its coverage area including broadband Internet access (using ADSL and wireless systems) and the extension of the innovative Agile voice calling systems and prices to the region.

Business and residential customers in the Yorke Peninsula townships concerned will have access to broadband data and low-cost voice call services through ISP's in the region as well as via Internode, Agile's Adelaide-based ISP partner.

Further information on the services rollout will be provided here as the rollout progresses. Information regarding Agile's Broadband rollout to the Yorke Peninsula and other areas can be found here.
